Each day is different. You never know what you’ll see. Old trail, new haiku.
Hiker versus deer
Staring contest on the trail
Deer wins, then trots off
Ahead on the trail
A fluffy white-tipped tail waves
Red fox saying bye
Spring slowly unfurls
Skunk cabbage and fiddleheads
Marsh marigold too
Splash, honk, quack, croak, peep
The language of geese, ducks, frogs
Loud, mesmerizing
A patch of winter
Somehow lingers in the shade
On this warm spring day
Ten geese in a row
Standing one-footed on ice
Like it’s a sandbar
A stand of beech trees
Still holding their withered leaves
At the start of spring
